Level Design Platformer Project
Project Type
University 2 week long level design project
Date
April 2021
Project meant to practice my ability to implement the "Teach, Test, Challenge" methodology as well as greyboxing and level design iteration.
Check out some of my process work below!
Getting Started
With the goal of creating a platforming level that can effectively use "teach, test, challenge", I first created an LDD to start ideating on the level's appearance and creating some initial layout diagrams of my level.

the LDD

Greyboxing.
Once the LDD was started, I got into Unity and started creating the level. Using the metrics I recorded in the LDD, I got to work laying out the mechanics of the level. With some playtests from others, I iterated on some of the design, and ended up with this section's design.

Arting.
Once the design for the first section was locked down, I arted it with the assets to finish this section up.

Designing/Greyboxing the next step.
With this section done, I started working on the next part of the level. This section is a further introduction of more mechanics for the player, building off the skills they were taught in my first section. Here I challenge their platforming skills before introducing hazards as well as promptly testing and challenging their skills with them.

Final iterations.
I got some final playtesters before making some last iterations to this greyboxed section. The project ended here, and I learned a lot about the core level design process through this project as well as some more practice with Unity.
